I have not blogged in a while and I am feeling kind of bad about it. I'm not exactly sure how many people even read this blog but I feel better when I write about things that are happening in my life.
Well I am almost finished the academy!! I can't believe 10 months have passed already and I only have about five weeks left. I will graduate on 9/11 and I take the state certification exam on the 24th. Last week, I submitted my application to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and have started that long and grueling process. If all goes well, I might be employed full-time in law enforcement by the end of October! That will be exciting, stressful and a welcome change all rolled into one.
Adam still has not saved up enough to buy another vehicle yet and that causes Nanner and I a lot of stress. We are worried that his adult life has not gotten off to a good start and don't want him to be too comfortable at home for much longer. He wants to join the military but has to get off his ass and study for the ASVAB test so he can get in. He worries us a lot.
Zach and Josh are excited to be starting at the middle school this fall and have already started to get new stuff for the new school year. Luckily, Nanner and I only have two to buy school crap for this year, instead of three. I will take any help I can get!
Since my last blog, we have sold the second property we had and have been able to pay off an ass-load of debt. It is a really good feeling to finally get control over our finances. It has been a long time coming.
I guess thats about it for now. I will try to keep everyone posted a little more often.
Take care!
You may remember the excited post about 6 or so months ago when my oldest son Adam bought his very own, first vehicle - a 1991 Chevy S-10 pickup truck. Adam had an unfortunate accident earlier in the week and ended up flipping his truck into a ditch. The good news is that he escaped with only minor injuries. The bad news is that his truck was totaled and he has no more transportation (of his own).
Hopefully, he takes this as a very important life lesson and NEVER acts foolish behind the wheel again. We all know how lucky he was to escape this one with only minor injuries.

Our beloved family pet Boomer had to be euthanized this weekend after a long battle with canine epilepsy. He had more than 14 seizures in a 36 hour period and had suffered brain damage as a result. He was unable to recognize any of us, did not know his name nor where in the world he was. His balance and coordination were greatly diminished and he was in pretty bad shape. Ann-Marie and I made the heart-breaking decision to end his suffering Saturday afternoon.
I often hear people talking about how their pet is/was the best pet ever for various reasons. Boomer indeed was the best ever. He loved all people and gave as much as he received (if not more!) He also loved camping as you can see in the picture below. We have nine years of awesome memories with Boomer and will never forget him. He is already greatly missed.

The New England Patriots, under their head coach Bill Belicheat, tanked Super Bowl XLII last night and ended their hopes of a 'perfect' season. I'm not usually one to gloat over another's misery. Hell, I don't even care about the NY Giants (and not just because their head coach once coached the Jaguars). In fact, other than the possibility of the Patriots losing last night, I had no real desire to even watch this Super Bowl.
Why do I care? First of all, nothing bores me to tears more than seeing the same one or two teams in championship games year after year. This phenomenon is not something that is unique to football. Almost every major league sport has a team that for several years will dominate. Some might call that a dynasty - I call it booooring. You're probably thinking that I would not feel that way if my team won every year. (I'll have to get back to you on that one since I've never been that fortunate!)
Next, we have the cheating issue. I have heard every excuse possible from Pats fans since they were caught blatantly stealing defensive signals from the Jets earlier in the season. The most common (and false) justification is that "every team does it". Bullshit. I don't believe that for a minute. You might as well say that "every baseball player does steroids" too. I will fully admit that there are probably other teams that cheat and have just not gotten caught yet, but to say that they all do it is merely a way for Pats fans to try and make themselves feel better about it all. If you are an honest person, you could not possibly feel good about the prospect of a 'perfect' season when the scales were unfairly tipped toward the Pats - all on the backs on their unsuspecting opponents. Good for the Jets for turning them in. Shame on the NFL for not making the Patriots forfeit that game. They truly did not deserve to win.
Congratulations to the NY Giants for winning the Super Bowl and de-throning the Patriots and especially Tom Brady. This Super Upset is proof positive that the Patriots were a one man show and had no depth as a team. (Not to mention an utter lack of class with all their pre-game smack talking) Bill Belicheat was so pissed off at the end of the game, he refused to return to the field to watch the last snap. What a sore loser. How does it feel Bill? Reminds me of the old saying: "cheat cheat never beat".
Adam got his first vehicle this weekend! It is a 1991 Chevy S10 pick-em-up truck. He is absolutely beside himself with glee. He spent pretty much all day yesterday in it; listening to tunes, washing the mirrors, sweeping out the truck bed, etc...
Here are a few snapshots of him. Click on either one to view the large version.
We are all very happy for him and I am proud to say that he did very well on his first lesson on how to drive a stick shift!
